Contract Extension - Would you be bothered?

Been at clientco, six months so far this year. Did a 3 month stint with them last year as well.

In both cases the director in charge is extremely non-committal to contract extensions. In face he is so risk adverse he spends most of his time trying to not commit to anything in the business. He also doesn't project plan.

I hold the project plans for four projects, which are due to complete in the middle to end of October(minimum). I am also the only SME on the subject area and the deliverables which will cost about £200k are based on pitches I have done. The Director is notorious for ensuring nobody becomes indespensible, but in this case he has now failed because if I don't do the work, nobody else can and so the projects failed.

Last year when they dicked me about I applied elsewhere and was gone by the time he wanted to discuss renewals.

This time I have been offered a lousy two months extension as yet again he hedges his bets and is non-committal. Of course, thats going to be July/August the nicest two months of the year. I emailed to the agent to say I will think about the extension as I expected more. That should start the ball rolling.

    What approach would others take?

I would demand a massive rise. So massive that they would tell me to **** off, then back down as they realised they needed me, resulting in 3 months at a vastly increased rate and no more hassle from them after that.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Ensure you have the details on the 4 projects and refuse the extension,

Then in October approach the end clients and offer to fix the screw ups for them.

I am the UAT tester on four projects, which are due to complete in the middle to end of October(minimum). I am also the only UAT tester on the projects and the deliverables which will cost about £200k are based on technical work others have done. The Director is notorious for ensuring nobody becomes indespensible, but in this case he has now failed because if I don't do the work, anybody can and so the projects will succeed anyway.

Why not try and get some more hands on technical skills and become really indispensible, then you don't get dicked around half as much. My last gig was over 18 months long, and extensions were always in the bag early and 6 months in length.
