I expect most parents have had at least one horrid nightmare about what it would be like if it were their child.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Words can be very powerful (and shocking).

        Why would it?

Agreed. The unapalatable, unspoken truth of the matter is that if she was abducted, it was probably for a sexual motive. As revolting a notion as that is, every parent would immediately, and constantly fear it to be the case. The world is full of nutters and bad bastards, and small children are so vulnerable.

The subject has come up dozens of times over the last few years in conversations with people I know or work with and every single parent has homed in on the fact that you never leave little ones alone.
My 3 are way past the age where it's a concern, but I would never have dreamed of leaving them while going for dinner, the choice is either to take them or not go.
It was bad judgement that they have to live with. However much anyone may blame them for that decision, I don't blame them for trying to find out what happened to their daughter - and I don't think any parent would.

I think the reason I was so shocked by her being so candor with the wording is that previous to that my impression was they were convinced she was still alive and had been abucted by a family (she said she thought a couple were involved). I even recall reading a bizarre statement from Kate along the lines of "wherever she is madeleine will be giving them a piece of her mind". Maybe that was optimism that had passed by the time she got to writing that chapter in the book.

There is a lot of speculation and misinformation on the internet so it's hard to know what is fact, hence my original posting in this thread.

The one thing I find the most bizarre about the whole case is that according to reports about the first year's spending from the madeleine fund (available via companies house apparently) which is built from public donations, they only spent 15% of the fund on actually searching for madeleine. The rest has been held in reserve or used to fund lawsuits (such as suing newspapers), or media monitoring.

That fact (if it is indeed fact and not more misinformation) suprises me as in the early days and months of the search you'd expect them to use all resources available.

This is the sort of thing that makes the case intriguing, but at the end of it all there's a young girl missing or dead. I tend to favour the idea that madeleine had an accident and died in the apartment, at least then she is in a better place compared to all the realistic alternatives.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

The one thing I find the most bizarre about the whole case is the number of people who think they have an explantion (usually based on blaming the parents) based on zero. I don't pretend to know what happened, but I'd be highly surprised if all the campaigning they have done was predicated on a falsehood (i.e. they already know what happened) - on the balance of probabilities that's surely more unlikely than a bunch of internet speculation based on press lies and prejudices (although I accept it's not impossible)?

I think rather than being "convinced" she was alive, there was both fervent and unrelenting hope and the need to provide stong, optomistic support for the rest of the family, including the other kids.
