There is no "contract between yourself and the government" for the return on paying taxes.

      Quite simple really.
Not even a notional contract, then the money the gov take me from is stolen.
      Why not?

Tax, laddie, tax. Not, repeat not, a payment on a contract. When you pay tax you are making a contribution, not a purchase.

It pains me to admit it but you're quite right, and wise too.

You are the chancellor of the exchequer and I owe you £5.
The reason that people pay tax is because of this perceived notional contract. Why else would we pay council tax if we did not expect to receive services for it? Why else would we pay income tax and ni?
              Why not?

Yes, practically what **** said at his first party conference.

**** is left as an exercise for the reader.

Whether or not the package is overly generous, is not the point: a deal was made, and the unions want it to be kept for existing workers, who made that deal.

Wish I could say I'm stunned that a load of people on this board would prefer to renege on the deal if there was a few quid in it for them.
