    Agency (Mal)practices

    1. Not even bothering with a courtesy call/email to let you know you haven't got the job

    Add you own... see if it can get to 100

    You're new to contracting, aren't you?

    We must strike at the lies that have spread like disease through our minds

      2. Not bothering to respond to your urgent email about contract variations that will be required for me to do on-call support - this is a major risk to the clients project - no contract variation then no on-call

            Believing in what a contractor actually puts in their CV. See it heard about it and how an expert. Yer right.

              You apply for a job that's pretty much a perfect match, you hear nothing, but a week or so later they phone you and ask if you want a job that has essential requirements that you've never ever even looked into yet alone have any experience of.

              Happened to me twice in the last couple of weeks.
              Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

                My current client specialises in Adult Chat and dating services provided via the telephone, AND Sky TV. These are covered by a code of practice from an industry funded regulator Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of the Telephone Information Services. When perusing their website to make sure a new service keeps to it I found one covering employment agencies here; http://www.icstis.org.uk/pdfs/Guideline8.pdf and it makes interesting reading, especially the following;

                  Taking paragraphs out of ones CV and posting it on jobserve as part of an advert for a ficticious job.

                  Too many times to count.
                  Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

                    I don't get particularly annoyed by lack of follow-up calls to say you didn't get the contract. They're just deciding not to buy your service. Just like when I go to the supermarket and decide to buy Tesco's own brand curry sauce: I don't feel obliged to phone up Sherwood's and Patak's to say "sorry, maybe next time".

                    But it does cause them problems when you assume from 2 days' silence you didn't get it and then accept something else instead.
