So now it is clear that nobody knows where the problems comes from.

According to der spiegel it's small slugs wot done it. I blame the organic craze - if they'd smothered the salad with pesticide we wouldn't have this problem.

I really despair of the twunts in the Hague. In Netherlands at least, even labour were better than the current bunch of tulipwits.

Could that be to preserve their home grown stocks, reducing the need to import them, therefore reducing the chance of infectiing their own population (if there is a link)?

If so, then it sounds quite sensible to me.
