It's a shame when an accomplished musician pops his clogs, but I admit I detest rap and hip hop (I know they're different, but they're crap in similar ways) so I'm a lot less bothered than when others kick the bucket.

Except GSH rejected the application of the descriptions "rap" and "hip hop" to his work: he regarded himself as working in the blues tradition.

I was lucky to get to see him live in Brixton last winter, and if I absolutely had to categorise that show I'd put it under "soul".

The closest you ever got to a blues tradition was a valium addict you sat beside on the bus whilst you were reading about hip hop in Q magazine with your starbucks coffee.
