    Don't reveal the secret.

Let the mugs fight over the shiny tin cans.

It lets us have the real nice hardware. Although Lenovo has moved to chicklet keyboard on the X1

It's a nice piece of kit, I will buy one for my next laptop. The boot up time seems similar to Ipad, you don't want to wait for 5 mins when you just want to get online and check email, lookup cinema times or have a quick before the missus gets home, do you?

I would never buy a "normal" laptop again, humfing about a heavy machine and having to plug it in and wait 5 mins while Windows boots is so 2005. Those slagging them off are jealous that its out of their price range or their wife control the finances and they haven't the balls to buy one.

Nope, if I'm working away from home I want a laptop I can play decent games on, ie an Intel I7 with a decent dedicated graphics card. If I want to just get online and check email I use my phone which is a damn site more portable than any laptop

Lenovo X1 is not as thin, small or well made as the MacAir, has much worse battery time, and if you take the SSD option is much more expensive.

For my needs* which is a little experimental development (Python) and modelling (SAS/SPSS) work while I am on the sofa or surfing on holiday or on the move, its more than adequate.

For serious work I have in my Ecospace, a 27 inch, 8 GB RAM dual boot (Windows/Apple) Imac.

*Actually it was an impulse buy, I didn't need it.

I thought you were a very successful millionaire who does not know the meaning of word "expensive"?

Your needs can be fully satisfied with this computer:

You're a bit mouthy for a failure who lives in a rented flat in Birmingham.
Your jealousy at my ability to impulse buy expensive knick-knacks is showing.
Never mind, one day you might just take home what the average IT permie now earns.
Then if you save hard in another ten years you could buy a shared-ownership social housing flat and perhaps a Macair on 5 years hire-purchase.

5 minutes? Just use the sleep function and it should be ready in a few seconds.
Also if your laptop takes 5 minutes to boot up then its got a lot of background services running which are probably surplus to requirements

I used to resent having to use a tulipty corporate laptop until they issued me with a Thinkpad X series. I reckon they'd survive a drop off a cliff - excellent build quality... and the keyboards are the best of all IMO.

No!!! Don't mess with the keyboard! Idiots.

That's tactical - unlike you my ambition goes further than wishing to live in an overpriced "house" on top of kebab shop in a rough area of London.

As the world changes and moves on from your blinkered, mediocre vision you will be left stranded high and dry, your best years behind you.
