          Hmm, people were encoding video on old P4 and earlier. And mobile phones can now spurt out HD without proper dedicated video and much slower CPUs.

          I think you forget how quickly PCs advance, a modern netbook is equivalent to a decent desktop at the start of this century.

            I'm not saying it can't do it, but it will do it slowly. Ripping a DVD on my iMac is positively pedestrian compared to the the new MacBook.

                    Why would you buy an ultra-thin netbook for video editing or DVD ripping?

                    That said, the SSD will make even a slow PC stand up well for general use to a much faster FDD system. I'm impressed Apple made the move here, hopefully setting a precedent.
