Excession is simply awesome, if you are into the Culture rather than simply his story-telling. Player of Games maybe the best story.

Wasp Factory is wonderful, a film might end up being banned in the mold of Clockwork Orange though.

"Ringworld" dates from the time when Niven wrote stuff that was worth reading.

The Known Space collections are good too.

Very true, I've liked his stuff for 25 years, have many/most of his stuff in paperback and a lot of it electronically. He wrote a lot of very good shorter stories too.
