She comes back and says she doesn't fancy going away but she'd rather just have the money.

it does take the piss but if she was a friend (and not someone I wanted to...ahem..) I would give her the benefit of the doubt and give her the cash, don't expect to get it back but then you wont have to help her again if she doesn't pay you back

what you may find is she ends up back with the bloke who beat her so think about how you'll feel if she does.

Give her the money and if she's ungrateful and/or does a disappearing trick, consider it money well spent.

Well I suppose that is just one of the pitfalls of living in Yorkshire.

It's strange, but since she's a friend, and she's asked, I say give it to her.

You are thinking with your dick

If you really are a friend you would give her the money and would not expect it back.
She has been horribly abused by someone she trusted FFS.
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

I can see why that might come across as a bit cheeky! But she has an understandable preference for spending (your) money on necessaries, rather than something that she sees as frivolous. You should count yourself honoured that she sees you as enough of a trusted friend to ask for what she needs, even if it's contrary to social convention.

Poor girl! An abusive boyfriend and a "friend" who won't lend money unless he gets a shag. Sounds like she needs to move away and start again.
