Female friend of mine has just had the crap kicked out of her by her now ex-boyfriend, she has been holed up at her mums as she can't face going back to the flat on her own. I suggest a few days away with some mutual friends of ours might do her some good, I even say I'll sort out train fair etc as I know she is brassic.

She comes back and says she doesn't fancy going away but she'd rather just have the money.

it does take the piss but if she was a friend (and not someone I wanted to...ahem..) I would give her the benefit of the doubt and give her the cash, don't expect to get it back but then you wont have to help her again if she doesn't pay you back

what you may find is she ends up back with the bloke who beat her so think about how you'll feel if she does.

I can see why that might come across as a bit cheeky! But she has an understandable preference for spending (your) money on necessaries, rather than something that she sees as frivolous. You should count yourself honoured that she sees you as enough of a trusted friend to ask for what she needs, even if it's contrary to social convention.
