Very similar to the idea of creating a new "Universe" in your kitchen. Creating a new universe requires no space because it happens in one of the thirteen dimensions. Apparently this Universe will be no different to any other one with super novas, galaxies, super massive black holes etc etc. However because it is in another dimension it will only visible through an electron microscope.
I thought there were only eleven dimensions. Or did I misread "String theory for Dummies"?

Depends whose string theory and the phase of the moon.

I heard there were two seperate theories doing the rounds. One lot advocated ten dimensions, and were shown to be way out. Well, way out by one, anyway.

You can come up with any theory you like. No-one can disprove it.

What is a dimension, anyway? How can anyone be "in the fifth dimension"?

            sorry wendy

if it cant be disproved it aint a proper theory

            a proper theory is like

'there is loadsa free energy and cheese on the moon'

well we went there and there wasnt - end of theory

the more falsifiable the better the theory

Btw, there is no accurate proof there are any more than 3 dimensions -- yet. There is some speculation and a few crackpot theories around but nothing conclusive.

I think the universe is simpler than we (including the crackpot physicists like Hawking) perceive it to be.
Does time not exist as the 4th dimension ?

Just as time is the fourth dimension, space is the fifth, for space is completely boundless and knows no time. There, I hope that's clear.

Shall we go through the one again where you're walking towards a train at 5 kph and the train hits you at 200 kph ...

Giving time a dimension is just a trick to make a model, it isn't reality.

                      Understands what, exactly? Please elucidate.

Does he understand that making smug-sounding comments of the "Ah ha! I know better than you Pygmies" sort, without bothering to explain his own 'theory' to the rest of us benighted plebs makes him look like an utter tosser?

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.
