And booked a children entertainer and magician. £200 for two hours. WTF! £100 PER HOUR!!

And paid caterers to do the food £120!!!! WTF £120 for the a childrens ******* party!

£440 for a four hour childrens party!!! WTF!!!!

Is this excessive? She thinks that's what it should cost!

Peanuts. The missus paid far more than that in total for our boy's 1st birthday, but he had a fever the day before so we had to cancel.
The amount of decoration, food, hall hire, entertainers etc etc we lost was a bit of a pisser.
Of course he woke us up the next day at 6 am right as rain. Kids eh?

To be fair my missus is senior manager at an investment bank so it did come out of her account. so fair enough.

Why did you have to cancel? He wouldn't have known either way.

30-40 4/5 year olds for 4 hours? Too many and too long. That's also going to result in 30/40 reciprocal invites which will cost you another £300 to £400 unless you recycle the presents you get this time around (which is probably where they came from in the first place).

Middle Class kids' bithday party inflation is getting out of hand these days. The kids would be far happier with an hour in a Wacky Warehouse followed by crisps, sweets and cake.

You know you've overtaken Suity and SB as the dullest poster on CUK?

Still some way behind you. Your story above takes some beating for made up dullness.

Oh I quite liked it. It keeps me in perspective when I compare myself to Sasguru. The wife just suggested we get the poodle a pet bath. I can already guess that Sas sends his doggies for weekly shiatsu massages and backrubs.

Luckily my 2 daughters have birthdays 3 days apart so we always have a joint party. We just booked a big table at restaurant and paid for everyone's meal, got the cake there the night before etc. Cost around £400 including the cake.

Then it will be going with 10 friends (by stretch limo) to the theme park, and you feed them lunch and dinner too!

It's not just for the child. It's also about impressing the other mums surely.

You like to impress us here; so why shouldn't the OH want to do the same with her acquaintances?

Anyway, £400 is a trifle for a party like that, especially given the amount you earn. Stop being such a skinflint!
