Just ignore him - for attention craving people like him its akin to a death sentence.

Back to your OP, all the costs seem fair except for the entertainer - what does he do? Turn water into wine?

There's a load of snobbery about it all too. And what really gets my goat is the presents. Why oh why do other parents insist on going overboard on the presents FFS. It's not just the buying them either, I have enough plastic crap in my house without another £400 worth of plastic crap from other people.

You didn't say how many kids are coming.

Maybe you can charge an entry fee.

Given that you usually bum on about how much you make and how much you have and how successful you are, then £440 is the kind of money you probably drop in a tramps hat without thinking about it. Now you grudge it for your kid ? What a c**t

£3-4/kid ain't bad. If you hadn't hired the magician it wouldn't seem OTT to me. Maybe you can get SY to perform instead. He does a great trick where he opens his mouth and everyone falls asleep.

I was bought up on a shoe string. I was lucky to get a hat made out of newspaper and we shared a cheese straw.

                    Kids spoilt these days.
