The French are a bit like the Septics which is why they don't get on. There are powerful lobbies in both countries trying to enforce State secularism alongside a lot of religious observers.
France has banned all religious symbols in public places and in schools so it's not just singling out Muslims.Comment

Agree but it isn't in itself a very serious issue and is perhaps putting even more pressure on the women. The suicide/self harm rate of Muslim women is already 2 to 3 times the national rate and they don't deserve it, it's their awful menfolk who are the real problem.
I'd be a bit more impressed if the West would deal with what's important, like halting immigration of those who don't respect our values, outlawing forced marriage and getting rid of the radical preachers and teachers.bloggoth
