Who here would be prepared to visit a wartorn region / region in need, and roll their sleeves up?
Luton looks like a 3rd world tuliphole after a 100 year war. Why not pop down the town and start there.

I know folks who have done the same and it works. You build relationships too.

I had hoped to garner support on here. Wrong forum I guess.
Not sure whether "Thanks for your post" is sarcy or not,

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the best thing we can do is give cash to the people who claim to know best how to spend it. Flying out there for two weeks isn't really going to make a notable difference. It's not about making us feel better. It's about letting the people who really can help do their stuff. And trusting them to make best use of our cash - which is the hard part.

Locals can dig and shift. That's not what's needed.

I was very moved by the thing a couple of weeks ago, where Lenny bought a house for about £1200 for an orphaned family looked after by a sixteen year old kid. If I was there I'd have done the same. No doubt.

It's easy to feel empathy for the plight of a highlighted family and want to help them. What's harder to get your head around is the countless nameless families. And other deserving causes. That's why I think the whole 'adopt a child' thing works well - your cash helps a named individual - you can see the huge difference it makes. Unfortunately, most of those charities are run by Christian organisations, and, whilst I've nothing against Christianity, I don't think getting the help should come with a bible.

Dunno what the solution is. I guess the soft hearted amongst us have to believe that any money we donate will go to wherever it's most needed.

But flying you or me out there isn't what's needed.
Wasn't there also a teenage boy who'd had 4 or 5 kids? Or were these the orphans you describe?

As sad as their plight is, and I might well have done the same if I had Lenny's money, I'm not convinced giving money or houses is doing anything but making the problem worse. The whole world needs to stop breeding like rabbits, especially as fossile fuels run out and nuclear reactors go boom.

          No, not sarcy.

I guess I'm on my own here. I would hope to personally forge a relationship with family and possibily a village. I have seen this done. It is awesome, tear jearking and rewarding.

I will leave you to your champers.

          As I say, wrong forum.

Actually I think this thread Is poor form and in all seriousness the poster is so concerned with his own self pity and gnashing and wailing of teeth this forum would be better off without him.

Time and place springs to mind. The OP has no
idea what people do and have done.

                Poor show. Very poor show.

Well said MF. There are those that DO, and those that TALK about doing.

                    WHS

A new low from the deeply, deeply insecure limelight craving, look at me troll - using the pretext of a charity day to top up his insecurity meter.

If this was a genuine desire on his part he would have just gone ahead and done it himself or with friends in the real world rather than try and rally a bunch of strangers on an internet forum.

Alas, I suspect his few real world friends put up with his b0ll0cks hence his turn to the few enablers on CUK who regularly feed his insecurity.

                    Get some help. Seriously.

                      Hm.

k2 offered some good words, but what OP heard was ' we don't want to help those in need ', and decided that somehow makes him a better person than those who can see that in most cases; the logistics of flying out somewhere to offer help, may not actually be as much use as offering the money to enable the proper help.

But, like - you post that sort of thing here, of all places, and still seem affronted that the urine is immediately and savagely extracted. You must have expected that sort of response in general, surely.
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.
