I don't know where this trend for developers with an inflated sense of their own abilities calling themselves "ninjas" started, but it's always grated on me. Chris Heilmann (who really is an awesome developer) had a good rant about it recently.

I had a former colleague who did something like that shortly after finally getting his first java applet to actually work. That was about a decade ago. I did think "**** me, what drugs are you on" at the time. The ones who feel a need to write a blog about it are particularly funny.

The ones who just get on with it and get it done well time after time tend not to boast. More like good session musicians IMO.
