I think if my mum was sent to back to work the global chardonnay trade would be wiped out in one go.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014 -

Yes you can. You make a hole in one end and leave them standing upside down until the insides all ooze out. The same technique could be used for bankers, politicians and Khaddafi; drill a little hole in their heads and hang them upside down.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View PostYou can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

We are currently paying for retired people in the UK who get a state pension. That's the problem with your scheme. The money we currently pay in NI pays for the current crop of pensioners' state pensions. My mum retired a few years ago with;
- a state pension
- a private pension
- a final salary based education pension (one of the last). She was a university dean when she retired.
She now recieves more each month than she ever earned in her life. All the best to her, but there's something slightly inequitable about this.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

BMW in Germany are starting to (re)hire older workers as they find there are not enough skills in the younger generation and they're also helping them in the workplace by introducing certain measures such as rooms to have a lie down, magnifying glasses, easier to reach work places (i.e. tool racks) and the assembly line goes a bit slower. Apparently its a success and they're going to employ a few thousand more but only in German speaking countries...Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostThe trouble with 'longer working lives' is that many people who lose their jobs in their 40s or 50s struggle to ever find work again as many companies don't like hiring older workers. Age discrimination is real and it's going to cause big economic problems at this rate.

That's not nice. We aren't in the Victorian era where we live old people to starve to death or go to the workhouse.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View PostBut that could stop tomorrow.
