Stuff like that, and dealing with people who talk like that, is one of the reasons I started contracting.

You still get subjected to it of course, but you know you will get away from them soon.

I think you're in need of a 360 degree assessment.

Just been asked to 'reach out to' someone 'offline' on a conf call.

Asked if that was the same as calling someone after this call ?

        I hate these *****

Don't start me on 'reach out'. Spent most of last year working with some management consultants, and suddenlt, they all started using 'reach out'. NO I CANNOT ******* REACH OUT TO JOHN OVER THE NEXT WEEK, BUT I CAN PHONE HIM YOU ****ED UP ****ER.

Seriously though this kind of crap really used to get to me. Then one day I had an epiphany. The whole point of language is to convey to someone what you mean. For example if you are told to "reach out" to someone on a conference call, if you are slightly unsure what is meant you could say "sure I'll give them a call" and if they meant something different they will elaborate and you then know the jargon for next time.

BUUUUUUUUUT never get involved with the jargon. Always say what you mean. Just learn their words and never sound derisory. They are the numpties, smile on the inside.

I do have to draw the line at "Value added synergies" though. This was trotted out by some arselicker some weeks ago, and I think even the most brazen of office bingo enthusiasts felt a little nauseus.

The thing to worry about is then you get tasked with some buzzwords, it can feel like you are being asked to plait fog.

"Barry, could you run over this off line with Fred and try and identify the value added synergies?"

I usually say yes, but would like to discuss this further after the call before I start to make sure our thinking is "aligned".

All part of the dance, and at the end of the day, in group dynamics, be it slang, coloquialisms or ghetto speak either you are a respected part of the tribe or an outsider. It aint pretty but it's how it is. We humans can be very territorial just like in the animal kingdom.

            Lecture over.

            Suity.

Any Bob's on assuring everyone they've checked the database then admitting under pressure they hadn't?

I appear to have upset the development team by insisting on a 'deployment date'

Nope. Way too high level for that. This was all about vision, global strategy, roadmaps, delivering value etc
