And the antidepressant drugs (particularly SSRIs such as Paxil) have a lasting affect on the endocrine system and autoimmune function in your body, ultimately leading to differing metabolism and therefore weight gain because the metabolism is permanently slowed.

The particularly obese person I am referring to eats virtually nothing at all and when she does it is healthy and balanced in all ways. Her body's metabolism was permanently altered by the drugs. there are numerous suits against GSK due to side effects of these drugs

And I used to work on Paxil/Seroxat. The friend you mention was 14 stone to start with? That's hardly a normal weight for a woman is it? It sounds like she was predisposed to putting on weight.

There is a weight gain issue in a small minority of patients treated with SSRIs but in the case of Paxil this was investigated by the FDA before the drug was licensed and they were satisfied with the outcome. Please don't believe all the rubbish you read on the web, there's money in them there lawsuits. I've taken Seroxat in the past, I put no weight on whatsoever. As for side effects in general, which are typically nausea and dry mouth, you are talking 1-5% of a population of which a much larger proportion would be dead if they hadn't taken it. Wich is worse being dead or having a dry mouth?

That's the old lawsuits - the new ones are starting to appear now.

GSK have a bad reputation and it's getting worse. They "alledgedly" (to cover my arse) cover up a lot of stuff from trials. I'm 2 years away from an NDA closure (I used to work there) - I will open my gob then.

How odd. Most of the fatties I know eat huge amounts, and their diet includes lots of rich fatty foods. I would feel sick were I to eat like them. Maybe I'm way off here, but I have a sneaky feeling there's a connection.

Just look at the UK. Obesity is becoming a problem as per the US, whereas 20 years ago it was much less of a problem. And the diet has worsened, with increased consumption of ready meals, crisps, McDonalds, take away pizzas, and so on.

Look at the Chinese. All the ones I've met are thin and eat a low fat diet high in vegetables and boiled rice. Obviously no connection.

Yes Fungus. If you keep an eye on a porker it isn't long before they are slipping a sly bun, burger or mars bar down their neck, and therein lies the real problem.

I once saw two pregnant welsh porkers in a coffee shop, tucking into a table-full of cream cakes. Half-way through they paused to put sweeteners in their coffee.
