Volvo XC90, classy spacious, understated, massive discounts on new, although nearly new would be your budgetOriginally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostEr indoors says my Arfur Daley mobile has got to go. I am having trouble finding anything that suits us both.
Requirements - needs to be able to accomodate two adults and car seat for a three year old (and the three year old).
Should be more use in the conditions if we get any more snow but doesn't need to be 4wd.
My requirements -
Excellent ride, reasonably brisk, nice to drive. Must have xenon(HID) headlights and heated seats. Proper ipod integration or ability to replace the stereo fairly easily.
Not a BMW.
Her requirements -
Auto trans (I can probably get around this), heated seats
Not a Seat, Skoda or Mazda (or probably Toyota or Honda if seh thinks about it)
Better fuel economy than her Disco 3
Not embarrasing for her to turn up at work in
Doesn't have a new random fault every week like my current Jag.
Less than 4 years old
Budget - to about 19K on a good day.
Mercedes C class, 15% discounts to be had
If you aren't a brand snob the top end fords have BMW build quality these days in terms of materials.
Ford Mondeo Turbo diesel Titanium
Ford S-Max Turbo diesel Titanium , 60 plate for circa 17k
PS your wife is ruling out some makes that top the reliability surveysThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

Unfortunately though nobody buys a Porsche through a private sale. Therefore the old "they are like money in the bank" only appears to be true when you look at those with large dealer margin in the Porsche garage. The ones they stole off the private owner who couldn't sell it to anyone but them.Originally posted by ThomasSoerensen View Post
screw budget and mpg considerations - in 5 years you can sell it for more than you pay today because it is a future classic.

Okay, you want good ride comfort, so that's either a luxury saloon (not a sporty version) or a luxury 4x4.My requirements -

You want better fuel economy, so that's either a hybrid or a diesel.
Not embarrasing, so no Skodas or cheap Jap/Malaysian/Korean crap.
Four seats and probably four doors.
Not BMW.
Good in snow if possible (that removes all rear wheel drive cars without winter tyres)
Audi Q5
Lexus RX 400h (e.g. Lexus Leicester : RX ESTATE 400h 3.3 SE 5dr CVT Auto [Navigator])

Yes organisations are buying - mainly upgrades and extra modules for existing customers, but there's plenty of work around.Comment

Skoda Superb was on the list until her indoors stuck her oar in - she's the brand snob not me (although I don't want a BMW so maybe I am a snob as they are so common).Originally posted by Fred Bloggs View PostThose Lexus are tiny inside. Once the kiddy got older than 3 they'd struggle. And that website says 31mpg. I couldn't afford the fuel for that. My thoroughly unglamorous (but huge inside space) Skoda Superb 2.5TDi does just over 48mpg on my weekly commute to/from Surrey.Comment
