A LED lamp to make the greenies come.

LEDs Magazine - Cree demonstrates 60W-equivalent LED retrofit lamp

    800 lumens for a mere 10W input.

    Stunning.

    Love the heatsink.

At least it's instant brightness, rather than wait for the damn thing to warm up like the CFLs.

Nice, but at 12% efficient* only a couple of percent more efficient than current LEDs (~10% and improving). LEDs are expected to reach 25% efficient soon.

*Maximum theoretical brightness is 683 lumens/Watt at 555nm (green)

Compared to candle light 0.04% (tulipe), incandescent 2.5% (nice), florescent 10% (can't see colours, chuck those resistors away, or look again when the sun comes out), sodium 30% (everything is yellow) and quantum dot (theoretical potential) 60%.
