have a look around, the families which have been the most successful at preserving intergenerational wealth are those who have revenue generating assets - farmland and rented houses
the 'big' house is a trophy from the success of an ancestor and although nice to have, if the current generation do not have the capacity to service the 'big' house it will become a cash drain
better to accept that the acestoral home has to go and take the cash from the sale and put it into land which can be rented and transferred through the generations
the golden rule... never bet or sell the farm.
