    ATW to annoy everyone

Arriva Trains Wales rail strike on Six Nations opener
The planned drivers' strike falls on the day of Wales' opening Six Nations match

Some train services look set be disrupted in Cardiff on the day of Wales' opening Six Nations match against England.

Rail union RMT has said it will strike on Friday 4 February after talks with Arriva Trains Wales over pay broke down.

Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) said its offer, a 12% pay increase over two years, was "very generous".

In December, ATW train drivers held a one-day strike over pay and conditions.

The strike falls on the day the Wales rugby team play England in an evening fixture at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.[Pondlife's comment: Come on ATW sort your @rse out.]

ATW said the strike "will cause disruption and inconvenience for many thousands of rail passengers and rugby fans".

You see what I did there?

Having used Arriva Trains on several occasions, I am at a loss as to how I would discern any difference in the service on the day of the strike.
I suppose the lack of surly staff may be a clue ...

12% salary increase over 2 years is a good offer given the economy.

I despair at the logic of union leaders who insist on pissing off the public when they could be seeking their sympathy instead.

          Utter, utter fukcwits.

London Underground has gone on strike the day after an England home match for as long as I can remember; it is a perk of working there.

To go on strike on the day of the Royal Wedding seems suicidal.

Why don't they refuse to stop at Westminster and Whitehall as a protest, or any station that serves major government buildings?

The union for the Arriva Train Wales staff could just announce they will not check the tickets of anyone wearing a Wales shirt. Simples.
