I'm very happy to work from home for many reasons but when I was commuting - driving to the nearest train station and parking up it was free and as far as I know it still is. Had to be there early as the car park filled up quickly but that's trivial.

Just about every contract I ever had involved driving to ClientCo anyway as most were situated in a business park outside of city centres anyway. Commuting / driving / parking are always considered when taking on a gig. For example the last contract but one involved a drive on the M8 across the Kingston bridge, total nightmare. I refused the contract for this reason and utlimately ClientCo upped the rate by 30%, kerching.

I used to drive 70 miles to a station, park (for £5 a day) and take a 5 minute train. I guess that's the total opposite of how it's meant to work.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Simple, not interested. Second, third and fourth phone call still not interested. Fifth call with upped rate agreed on.

They wanted me more than I wanted them. Find a niche skill, sorted.

So you didn't really object to the commute then? 30% for something you were dead set against doesn't seem that dead set
