If it's any consolidation GJ when it happened to me I was pretty shell shocked but the next role afterwards(apart from being a bit nervous to start with) I landed up staying for 3 years.
Had a similar experience myself. I was experienced in Agile development (as a tester), and pit on a project with an arsey Prince2 traditional PM who had no knowledge, or desire to work in an agile way.
Hence conflict, and I was asked to walk.
I did get the notice of 2 weeks paid at home which got me the gig I ended up going perm here from.
It may not feel like it now, but, if you get that CV sorted and go to town on Jobserve, Monster, Jobsite etc, you will get to know the main agents and get someting you are a lot more suited for.
May help if you let us lot know your skillset, and rough idea of your industry / location etc. You never know......
One of the most disorganised companies I've ever had the misfortune to work with. How they get anything done at all is beyond me.
Tell me about it - Back in the early '90s I went for an interview with them, and never heard back, ever. I think the two guys who interviewed me were laid off shortly thereafter and my details were "lost".
After spending week one twiddling my thumbs because the pilot was delayed I asked the client if it was ok to extend my long weekend (already booked pre contract and agreed) by one extra day, the response was I couldn't have the day off as some project specific training would be provided and I needed to be available, ok by me.
Today I had my contract terminated, it read "This is not a reflection on you as a person but the need for absolute focus on the project".
WTF... I mean WTF!!! I didn't insist, I didn't know about training before I asked and I dropped the request when I was informed, now the agent has gone AWOL and emails don't generate a delivery receipt.
Don't take what they did personally; it is not about you it is about them. Dumping someone you've just recruited is not usually a failing of the recruited, it is a failing of the recruiter. (Unless, of course, you've crapped on the carpet and shagged the boss's daughter.)
So they took you on when they weren't ready, still haven't sorted out the contract, hadn't told you that you were on a training session, then they go terminating a contract at no notice.
This isn't about you. This is a project that is not getting off the ground and they need to cover their arses sharpish. Part of that includes getting you off-site.
They are blaming you for any old rubbish so they don't have to say "Oops, we fukced this project up right good and proper. Here's your week's notice dosh; sorry for fukcing you around so badly. It's because we're incompetent 'bananas'".
The reason they gave you was a random excuse.
It really ain't your fault.
Now put them in your CV and get it uploaded to Jobserve. If anyone asks, the project was canned because of external budget issues.
