I live oop north now, and can see the hardship Thatch caused. Some people don't even have a BTL portfolio or a holiday home in Provence. Or a Range Rover or any children called Tarquin.

Joan of Arc was French, I though she was Noahs sister

Technically it was Gordon Brown deregulating the banks that caused the global meltdown to be a lot worse than it should have been, and putting this country into debt when times were good didn't help either

In fact is there anything Gordon Brown hasn't cursed ?

Yep, these days, having ´abolished´ slavery and child labour, which have no place in a civilised western society, we buy expensive shoes, handbags and other designer goods that are sewn together by kids in Cambodian sweatshops or Chinese prison camps instead. Out of sight, out of mind.

Margaret Thatcher went oop North? Well I never!
had she done so she could well have privatised everything past Luton.
wasn't she the one that blew all the North Sea oil cash on bribing people with the right to buy their council house? And then had to raise VAT to make up for the short fall in revenue....I could be wrong though as I was in Canada at the time.

First of all - You are right about the aircraft carriers, purely for show. Estimated survival time during a conflict with say China - about 20 minutes. Subs still worth it though.
Secondly - You are right about the North Sea oil revenue - Ask Norway about their trillion pound sovereign fund, set to generate revenue for the nation....forever, we are already suffering from the fall in revenue from reduced oil production (offset at the mo by ridiculous price/keg..)
Thirdly - Had to do something about the unions but wrong to chuck out all the manufacturing with them and to destroy communities to make the point. Again - look at how the germans seem to be able to make stuff still.
                  Apart from that.....she done well.

I didn't know that all our North Sea oil cash was used to bribe people to buy their council houses. Or that any of it was used.

                    How did that work?

You have chosen a bit of an in extremis example and applied it to all potential usage. Not all conflict is with a giant nuclear power.
