I grew up in a staunchly tory hating family. During the Thatcher years I was a teenager. I loathed her then, and all that she stood for.

However, as an adult, I can get beyond the personality, the mistakes that she did make, and the callousness she displayed and see that for the most part she was good for Britain. Her main achievement was breaking the power of the unions. It needed to be done. You may well disagree with me of course. But one thing I think sets her apart: I never got the sense that she was trying to please enough of the population to stay in power (as has been the case with most politicians since her fall). She was doing what she thought was right. And that kind of integrity is sadly missing in todays politicos.

I know some card carrying and ex-card carrying Labour members. They hate the woman but admire her integrity.

Particularly on stuff like not drawing her salary as PM due to being wealthy.

She not only broke EXCESSIVE union power. She rescued the country from years of economic mismanagement.

She could have been more sensitive, but overall she was great for Britain....

Nothing wrong with being honest yes, but there is no point in not being sensitive to those going through hard times ....

If you are constantly wary and constantly trying to appease and be sensitive to all then you'll never make a decision. You only have to look at the last 15 years of government, plus the present lot.

Yep, and they can be just as stupid. My grandfather actually went out to Germany after the war with the TUC to help start the unions in Germany. I ******* hate Thatcher, my most worn t-shirt which I got on the march for jobs many years ago...

Yes, just think how competitive our coal mining industry would have been if we'd still been able to shove 6 year old kids down there to haul coal carts in the dark. Much less male unemployment as well if the pesky bleeders hadn't got women equal employment rights. None of this namby pamby maximum working week stuff neither.

Dodgy doesn't seem to realise that without Unions he'd probably still be doffing his hat to the Squire and living on a diet of turnips.

Oh and you might not have noticed that 'overpaid bankers' have managed to **** up the global economy. That's not quite people being 'envious' of their higher salaries. There's more to it than that.

Damn, thought this thread was started as a Eulogy. But no it's DA having a wank while wearing his rose tinted spectacles once again. Change the fooking record FFS
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
