I thought "great" meant the very best of a profession or whatever. How can the large number of actors named in this thread all be the very best?

No that's "GREATEST"Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostI thought "great" meant the very best of a profession or whatever. How can the large number of actors named in this thread all be the very best?
Great means they were really good at what they do.
David Beckham, Carlos Tevez, Maradonna, Geoff Hurst, George Best all GREAT footballers and quite often "greatest", as D000hg said, is a matter of opinion unless there is some definitive measure.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment

But for the pedantic or slow-witted, you can read the question as "who do you consider the very best actor, or few actors, of our time" if it helpsOriginally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Not a great actor but Kevin Costner directed and stared in one of the best films of the last 30 years (Dances with Wolves). How did that happen? The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment
