    Alternative Fuel Cars

Do the panel have any experience in looking at 'green' energy vehicles?

As a taskforce recommends the UK to plan for another massive hike in Oil prices in the future, and bearing in mind oil is running out, would a Plan B be an alternative vehicle business?

There are some hybrid cars, electric cars etc, but does anyone own one and has anyone researched this/test driven?
What happens in General, stays in General.
You know what they say about assumptions!

I've often thought there was a market for the Chinese to get into the ultra cheap electric bike manufacturing market, which might yet take off. They have the raw materials and battery technology is now just about up to it, but electric bikes are expensive. It's essentially just a bike, a battery an electric motor, so no great show stoppers technology wise, save price. It does need heavy investment in infrastructure in the UK though, because roads are deathtraps for cyclists here as things stand.

I'm currently looking at Hydrogen fuelled conversions -hydrogen produced by electrolysis driven by sunlight sticking point seems to be the storage

& as always the yanks are way ahead...
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Fine until everybody wants one, then the only way to make enough hydrogen will be to burn lots of coal and oil to produce the energy.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I was reading about piss energy the other day, urea actually, which is easier to handle than raw hydrogen. Piss is also a useful fertiliser, so may make a comeback for that too as oil declines. Wee was a much sought after commodity once, with the high phosphor content being useful for making e.g. matches.

            Energy from piss

No - you have to disconnect from any centralised grid or means of production(= a means of taxation or monopoly supply) and think micro-generation - enough to run your converted vehicle, heat your house/water & drive a generator for electricity. & all done 'in house'

...and as a backup, bypass your gas meter just in case

                ( a mere joke m'lud!)

Probably the biggest green energy wheeze in the UK today is selling 'green energy' to the grid, heavily subsidised by the tax payer. Even Glastonberry is in on it. Even better, though illegal, would be to feed energy bought from the grid at normal prices to the grid at green energy prices.

Buy yourself a wind turbine and a giant fan.

                    Sorted.

Isn't what you're proposing essentially how places like Denorwig(sp?) work? i.e. water is pumped up at cheap rates and released for peaks.
