Re-unite Ireland and bring it back into the United Kingdom. Then we can **** off the EU and concentrate on our trade with the old Commonwealth and other countries on a nation by nation basis.

The EU isn't needed anymore to prevent European factions from war so disband it. Trade on our merits, not in a false market.

Better idea ..keep things as they are and get rid of Scotland too
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

I don't know what the answer is but I do know it certainly isn't that.

I didn't propose "the answer". I said I had "an answer". Just thought I'd raise it up the flag-pole and see who saluted it.

Bad idea. Better to stuff all the UK's bad debts into the Ulster Bank and hand over Northern Ireland to the Republic. Britain debt free, Ireland united; everyone happy except for a few over-subsidised loons in Belfast.

Anyway just for a moment of semi-seriousishness, it can't be in Britain's interests for a neighbouring country and trading partner to go through such trouble; perhaps some kind of economic cooperation can be arranged with Ireland whereby both Britain and Ireland can gain a competitive advantage and cushion the blows to people both sides of the sea. I'm not sure what that cooperation would be; perhaps infrastructure, perhaps in healthcare provision or education, but I don't think it's wise to let large parts of Ireland slip back to a standard of living akin to the turd world as things have been in the past. Education and research are certainly areas with economic potential; both British and Irish universities have a good reputation internationally and can certainly attract many foreign students including those who require distance education. I'm sure there are other fields in which cooperation would give mutual benefits. Obviously, it wouldn;t work if people felt they were being colonised all over again, but I'd like to think most people are over that now.

TBH, I was semi-serious about my suggestion.

A mixture of old wounds and small minds will mean that'll never be the case.
