I had exactly the same thing 3 years ago. They tried 3 times to fob me off with different objections, like, 'use it for 12 months to build a good record'.. uh, no..

I waved away their foolish objections and told them "I simply don't pre-pay for energy, please make the appropriate changes straight away".

While on the line, she credit checked me and agreed an appointment date for the meter to be swapped over.

You just have to bypass their first attempts to fob you off. They seem to assume you're on prepay because you deserve it and are trying to pull a fast one. They don't know you're a highly paid, highly liquid, opulent contractor.
When you encounter speed humps, sound your horn in protest.

Hang on, that could work to his advantage.

Alexei, if you plan to bring a bird back, be sure to have a few candles ready and leave the meter almost empty, so the two of you can be chatting on the sofa when the lights go off.

...who can't afford to buy a flat in Birmingham (cheap location) with cash.

It's the sofa I'm more worried about.

If the gas has run out too then they'll have to find some way to keep warm

Is it coin, or card operated? Are we really going to get a new thread for ever utility and purchase you make?

Yeah, but AtW's living in a bedsit from the 70s, apparently. Didn't he say he's paying about £1000/month for a house with a meter? Must be an ex-benefits place.

How can you build up a 'good record' on a pre pay meter? It's not like you can use it without paying, so it's not possible to pay late!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                    I preferred version 1!

Ok, this is beginning to feel very much like being Wilmslow but...

Npower calls back says they were wrong to claim it is company policy not to allow change of meter, they can do it for £60 plus 2-3 weeks, but I had offer current supplier Scottish Power to do it for free (albeit in 4-6 weeks). So I tell them to stuff it.

Then I call Scottish Power they pass me over to sales drone who says things like you'll be for 12 months on prepay blah blah and I am like

                      then -

Tell them I had verbal offer earlier, they go on hold for like forever - must have been checking phone conversation, then say they'll do it

Now I know why I am not moving often
