I was reading an article earlier this week about benefit scroungers. Said doley had embezzled £150,000 in benefits over a number of years and was driving around in a 30k BMW.

Why the **** is there not a simple process for checking DVLA records against people on benefits? Another was her she claimed her husband lived apart, but they lived in the same house. He worked and paid tax. How the **** is this not cross referenced? I find the lack of 'data nouse' using available data sources laughable!

They could still have been living apart i.e. not sleeping together. If the husband wan't supporting her and she didn't have a job, how is she supposed to live?

I'll let you know. The second site reference numbers are wrong. It links to a spreadsheet but they're not correct.

Loads of interesting inputs, but population is the main one

That'll explain why there's so much tulip on the web.

OK, for a start there is no such thing as average life expectancy. Life expectancy is itself an average.

Secondly, Life expectancy at birth in the UK is currently 79.0 years, and has not been as low as 70 since, well, since Marillion were young.

Thirdly, the population of the UK is about 61M (est 2009), noz 70M.

And finally, if the population at any one time were say 70M, the population over say 35 years would be a lot larger.

Apart from that your figures are thought-provoking.
