Contract whilst on gardening leave

    Contract whilst on gardening leave

    As a few of you know I've been TUPE'd from one big corp to another and been put on immediate gardening leave but...

    I may have the opportunity to do a a few weeks contract work starting Monday, should I just do it and take double bubble?

    Is there any way my present 'employer' or new client could find out? Obviously I can't get a P45 and run a payroll until I've finished with the 'employer' but other than that I can't see a problem.

    My present 'employer' is only going through the motions and there's zero chance of being asked to come in.

    Have I missed anything?

      I can't see how they would find out. Just put yourself on an emergency tax code so you don't get a double tax allowance and square up anything due on a tax return (or via later payroll run).

        I wouldn't run a payroll until I had my P45 so tax should be OK.

            If you've still got a Ltd then I don't see any problem with your company having an income while you're on gardening leave. Once your leave finishes you can then switch to being employed by your company again and collect the cash as salary and/or divs.
