Many is the time that I've made plans and bought an airline ticket the day before departure of a last minute holiday. It's not the most cost effective thing to do though, as with Ryanair et. al flights usually get more expensive closer to the departure date.

It is chucking it down outside.
Cats and dogs being thrown at the windows.

My quick impression of Bali off the net yesterday suggested it stinks too, and is so polluted that there is little malaria risk - the mosquitoes don't survive the pollution. Jabs for all forms of hepatitis are recommended though, as well as not drinking the sea water. Sounds great.Originally posted by minestrone View PostIt is chucking it down outside.

Not a great fan of the Balinese. A Hindu island compared to the Muslim rest I found that the Balinese have been horribly spooky by the influx of Aussie dollars.
As long as you didn't book Kuta there are lots of nice places. Kuta is the Benidorm of Bali. Local youths shout 'Alright mate' in mock Aussie accent. I've had a knife pulled on me in the backstreet of Kuta. If you're not used to the rest of Indonesia then Kuta is a brash shock. Saying that it's a nice cheap holiday.
Head up to Ubud in the centre. Nice craft area. Plus the volcanoes to visit.
'Hello mate!'What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

So that's where Australians go on holiday. It makes a change from living in a hot place by the sea I suppose.Comment

Staying in Legian the first 3 nights. You can walk into Kuta from there but are far enough back from the hawkers. Probably head up to Ubud for 3 nights after that.
Oddly, I described Kuta as the Australian Tenerife yesterday. It's not as bad as a Benidorm, the Australians there are mainly surfer kids who just want to talk about the waves.
No malaria risk in Bali, got a last minute typhoid shot Yesterday.Comment

I did see more fights in Kuta during my 3 weeks there than I did in my life in Glasgow, pretty terrible incident where a group of 20 Balinese were kicking the tulip out of one local, he had chatted up the wrong girl apparently, a bunch of Australians went in with their belts round their hands and dragged him out, they got him in a taxi, walked off and the mob dragged him back out the taxi and started to chuck bottles at his face. 2 Australians went back in and these guys were massive, your avergage balinese bloke is about 5 foot, 2 of them on the road protecting this guy while 20 Indonesians were just backing off. Bravest thing I have ever seen.Comment

Sounds like an interesting story, can you rewrite it, this time in English? Rather that your memory vomited onto the page.Originally posted by minestrone View PostI did see more fights in Kuta during my 3 weeks there than I did in my life in Glasgow, pretty terrible incident where a group of 20 Balinese were kicking the tulip out of one local, he had chatted up the wrong girl apparently, a bunch of Australians went in with their belts round their hands and dragged him out, they got him in a taxi, walked off and the mob dragged him back out the taxi and started to chuck bottles at his face. 2 Australians went back in and these guys were massive, your avergage balinese bloke is about 5 foot, 2 of them on the road protecting this guy while 20 Indonesians were just backing off. If you're going to criticise someone's English, the least you can do is get your own right.Originally posted by kandr View PostSounds like an interesting story, can you rewrite it, this time in English? Rather that your memory vomited onto the page.Comment
