Since I passed my driving test about 35 years ago, I've had about 12 different cars, even managing to own more than one at the same time for the last couple of years.

Does that make me a better driver than others? What a tulip thread.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

It was 3 months while the new system got sorted, 'cos they couldn't find a permie with the necessary skills.

But the system was far worse than they thought. So the contract was extended while I built a hardware / opsys / dba team to diagnose and propose the fixes to the system.

Then it became apparent the 3rd party service management team would have to be replaced. So the contract was extended while that happened.

Then it became apparent the new service management team could not deliver either. So the contract was extended while I re-built the team to cover the supplier's operational incompetence.

Then the planned re-outsourcing fell through. So my contract was extended while that was re-started.

Then the planned re-outsourcing went horribly wrong. So my contract was extended again while I turned the team into a dev team to provide the functionality the suppliers were clearly never gong to deliver.

Then the planned re-outsourcing took off again. So my contract was extended to participate in the handover. Which took longer than expected. So my contract was extended.

Public sector incompetence + outsourcing = FTW

(With hindsight, I should have bought 2 houses with what I made in that contract.)

How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

No it isn't. You get brought in to deliver a project within n months. You do it and you move on. fair few of my contracts have been like this.
Wodges of gigs should suggest you are good at what you do (and write your cv accordingly)

Just checked the Forum's Give-a-Toss Meter. Not even a flicker. Come back later if you have any relevant input, or better still...don't bother.

                  Point of order

I didn't count "repeats" (i.e. returns to previous clients) because that would nearly have doubled my total. Should I have done?
