Isn't everybody with a functioning brain agnostic, but somewhere on a scale from 'almost certain there is God/Allah/Big cow/goblins' to 'almost certain there is no supernatural being'?

So more towards the goblin end of the spectrum then?
          What about Tingha and Tucker?

            Are you a believer?

I thought love was only true in fairy tales,
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me,
            That's the way it seemed.
            Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

This is rather as if you imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in - an interesting hole I find myself in - fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!' This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it's still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything's going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. - Douglas Adams
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

given fewer than 10% of britons attend church on a regular basis, the 'believers' are vastly over-represented by the bbc etc

proper thinking doesn't get a lot of air-time anywhere, philosophy or truly unbiased political commentary

An interesting analogy for the chess playing agnostics and atheists.

What if your'e not a believer, atheist or agnostic?

Ie you do not have a problem with the idea of a creator only one who a) has a personal interest in our salvation or b) even if he does, has views that are remotely expressed by any established religion.

There was a thing the other evening on the alternative gospels. It showed the extent to which the early church picked and chose what to include in the new testament for purely political reasons. The gnostic gospels were excluded as being too elitist and therefore not being effective in uniting the empire under a single creed. How on earth do you get round that fact to still think it is the word of god?

There are similar conflicts in other religions over what are and what aren't the true teachings. I can understand wanting to believe in "something" but how anyone can give credence to teachings that were made or selected by men is beyond me.

PS I am going to call mysef an andywist. Most sensible option in there.
