John Wayne (My guru, not to be confused with my beloved prophet Jeremy Clarkson) -
I think two or three of the gags and plots in Fawlty Towers were based (subconsciously no doubt) on a 1952 comedy called Treasure Hunt.
I enjoyed it, because the main star, Jimmy Edwards, is one of my favourite comedians. But, understandably I suppose, some people might think it slightly dated.
But if any Fawlty Towers fans want to test that theory, a DVD of it is available for a fiver or so on Amazon.
Irish/British comedy/satire set in a large ancestral Irish mansion. My wife found it amusingly eccentric. It was written as a stage play and its premise is that of an eccentric family living beyond their means. They have to take in PG's (paying guests). Half the family are in favor and the other half (including, needless to say, Jimmy Edwards's character - OH) endeavour to sabotage the money making scheme. There's love interests, a kooky aunt who may save the day and a hunt for treasure.Last edited by OwlHoot; 20 September 2010, 22:27.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment
