I do from time to time and I pay at least £5, which is zone 1-2.

Ah, that's a travelcard.. OK fair enough.

Not sure whether the 3 million per day quoted by TfL is total journeys or distinct passengers tho.

The majority (by which I mean well over 70%, probably closer to 90%) of tube journeys are made using a travelcard or oyster payg which is not £5 per journey.

Even a single from z1 to z2 paying cash is only £4

Nobody knows whether the tube drivers have any qualifications or not.

Qualifications are not a requirement for the job so they are never asked. The could all have a phd for all we know.

That would be a waste of time. He would never believe me. He has his own world model and will not let reality intrude.

I only posted it for the benefit of others. Sometimes people get lazy and believe the popular opinion; not everyone knows where to find the facts (as much are they are given the source).
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Yes, but how many more travel from outside zone1/2 and pay more? I was trying to find total ticket revenues that Tube makes but seems harder than it should be - anyone got a total number that can be referenced?

Ok, thank you, so based on Annual Report 2010:
                    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloa...eport-2010.PDF

page 106 shows revenue of £3.6 bln - page 10 shows 2.25 bln passengers were carried, page 84 says 80% of revenues are ticket sales so that's £2.9 bln or £1.28 revenue per customer.

Conclusion - overpaid Londoners charge honest visitors far more than they pay themselves by using massive discounts

Partly true but there are plenty of people from outside London that have Oyster cards and use them when they are in town and there is nothing to stop anyone else doing that.

The downside of those cards of course is that Mayor Boris then knows your every move.
