Being excessively cold for a long time will result in getting more tired and even hypothermia which isn't a particularly safe state to be driving in.

Of course, if you are really struggling to stay awake the best thing is to pull into the services and have nap.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

      I meant chilly, not arctic

Try putting a drawing pin in under your foot the one you use the brake on. Kept my adrenaline going I can tell you.

Hmm, I usually commute by train. Gives me an extra hour of sleep, except when some pleb sits next to me with his bloody MP3 player.

Stimulants such as coffee are an obvious choice, but do you change what/how you eat, or your lifestyle, to accommodate the hours lost getting up early and driving long distances?

I can stave of fatigue for (many)months. However, when I need sleep, I really need sleep.

I find it helps to open the windows one at a time allowing cold fresh air to blow in. Then do them 2 at a time. Then various permutations. Until your ears go purple. Then stop, get out and walk round the car a few times, then off you go again.

Dear MP, do take care! I probably don't have anything that useful to add, except water, someone else mentioned, does seem to help. I have slightly low blood pressure and water can help that for some reason. In any case your brain lives on glucose and water so keep drinking it and one cup of coffee takes two cups of water to process (but don't quote me because I'm not 100%)

                    MP,

Being doing this for years and the only long term solution is at least one proper early night a week and what I do now is one saturday in six stay in bed all day.

Yep, and the easiest way to get one early night a week is to kip somewhere quiet nearby clientco for one or two nights each week.
