    This rubbish about windfall taxes!

Why do these goons think the answers to being a succesful business is to tax the hell out of them through windfall taxes?

The latest victim of jealousy...Shell...and all because they are a successful company (even though p1ss all of their profit comes from petrol sales to the dirty masses).

Next weeks victims will be HSBC (profit around 11bn, RBS 8bn and then all the other banks) for windfal taxes...and again, all because they are successful (since the majority of their profit comes from businesses).

What makes me laugh even more is that these goons think the government will actually use money collected from a windfall tax for their benefit

It's more serious than that - Shell (and soon, BP) will pay this with the funding earmarked for further North Sea exploration and development work. Our supplies are running low, so let's stop people being able to look for more.

Rumour has it Shell will soon go back to being a Dutch company, which will then take all their tax revenue away from Gordie's little piggy bank. So that's a result then...
    Blog? What blog...?

I am interested to know mailman why it is that non payment of contractors happens? Is it commonplace? and why do agencies do it? I am as dodgy as the next agent but surely not paying contractors in this day and age is suicide for an agency. After all agencies do supply into large companies and it must matter that they are reliable businesses.

Or is it cos you are a kiwi, and they think that they can put one over on you?

To be fair, most cases of non-payment are down to a mismatch between the agency's and the contractor's understanding of the payment process, which is usually more complex than it needs to be. Since the agent will need a timesheet in case the contractor charges for something that hasn't been done (although not the other way round, I've found...), you can't just use a simple invoice like every other business in the world.

And of course the reason behind that is that the agent pays the contractor before they get paid themselves and are unwilling to risk their money if the client disputes the amount of the invoice from the agency.

Then again, if the contractor didn't expect to get paid within five days of doing the work and used the same payment periods as everyone else's business, that problem wouldn't arise. Except we wouldn't then need the agency once we had the gig - so that will never happen either!

An obvious answer to your question is in the question itself, specifically the word "goons".
