This provides the ideal opportunity for the Taliban to say to all those people 'the west isn't helping because they hate you because you are muslims'. At the same time, western governments could actually be there helping people while subtly explaining 'your own government isn't helping because they've blown the money on nuclear bombs and staying friends with terrorists'.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? You haven't been watching the news in the past month have you?Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostReally? They're quite happy to support their cricket team, I'm offering them the chance to provide more tangible support.
Money is available, just need more bodies over there doing the work.
There's less chance of them shooting any of their own people.McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."

Yep, it doesn't really help in the old battle for "hearts and minds", does it?Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostThis provides the ideal opportunity for the Taliban to say to all those people 'the west isn't helping because they hate you because you are muslims'. Aren’t all charitable donations about personal choice? Should anyone feel guilt tripped into something they don’t support? Have you all given to cancer charities? If not, do you like seeing children die? Have you all given to wheelchair charities? If not do you enjoy seeing disabled children have a poor quality of life? Guide dogs for the blind, etc etc.
What a bunch of twats, usual band wagon bull.

Nobody suggested that charitable donations are not about personal choice. It's just noticeable that the generosity so often shown by people around the world towards victims of natural disasters hasn't had quite the same momentum this time around.Originally posted by Jeebo72 View PostAren’t all charitable donations about personal choice? How much are we supposed to donate?Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostNobody suggested that charitable donations are not about personal choice. How much is needed?
A lot of the villages were in a sh!t state before the floods, no schools, little option for education etc.
What are we doing? Providing basic relief or using this as an opportunity to bring them into the 21st century?
Just thought I'd ask.

I saw them [British Red Cross] at work at a local event the other day, helping hyperthermic old ladies, that sort of thing. Admirable stuff and just the tip of an iceburg of what they do. Presumably made up of all dedicated and well meaning volunteers too. If I had any charity money, they'd be my number one choice I think. In fact next time I pass one, I'll slip them a few quid.Originally posted by Jog On View PostI donated through them and clientco matched mine and all employee/contractor donations 2:1Comment

Is it really a problem if emergency relief ends up helping them develop better local facilities?Originally posted by SupremeSpod View PostHow much are we supposed to donate?
