One of the big stumbling blocks for the eastern churches was the concept of the trinity as they believed this was then 3 gods i.e. father, son and holy ghost.
Western tradition is that they are the same. Eastern or Arianism maintained that Christ was divine but created by god and therefore inferior.
Some scholars maintain this eastern view made the conversion to Islam easier as Christ was viewed as a messenger of God and ranked third behind Mohummad and his sidekick.
