From what I remember, an England-Germany game doesn't have any particular significance to the Germans, presumably because they almost invariably win any important games (apart from that one). England would be the same to them as, say, Italy to us. A good opponent (usually), but no dramatic footballing history between us.

It's Netherlands-Germany who have the big rivalry as far as they are concerned.

There is definitely some rivalry, it's not just another game, but they are a lot less jingoistic about it.

According to the Metro the overall stats between Eng and Germany stands 12-10 in England's favour.

All four meetings in world cup final tournaments have finished level at 90 minutes.

If we could find a way of scoring more than them before we get shagged out at 70 minutes, which we undoubtably will the way we play, we might be onto something.

Personally I think Rooney looks like a goal volcano on the brink of eruption. Once he gets a goal, the floodgates will open. I only hope it happens in the world cup and not during the qualifiers for Euro 2012.

We can't beat the Germans, end of. It is all about attitude at this stage and if you hear any of the ex-players, the germans simply expect to win, enjoy the pressure (more the better), never give in and usually perform close to their best.
In addition - There is a high chance of penalties, they relish these as an opportunity to demonstrate their steel.
The English - hamstrung by nerves and the weight of expectation can only play at a level way below that seen every week in the premiership, penalties are something to be feared, and the performance reflects this.

This is a young German team that could bottle it, plus they could be missing Schweinsteiger who has been dictating the pace of their play.

We'll win - 3-1 (Gerrard, Rooney and Heskey)

5-3 to Germany on penalties, with misses by Barry and (in his last England game) Lampard.

I think Rooney looks more like an erupting volcano on the brink of a goal.

I wouldn't go THAT far. England patently CAN beat Germany. I just think that on this occasion, that won't happen. But there is always the chance I might be wrong. It could happen.
