Why would they strike over a freeze - I was hoping there would be cuts similar to the IrishOriginally posted by minestrone View PostTell that to the unions, they will be walking out soon.
Friend is a teacher, he is all for striking on a pay freeze.
Irish cuts:
5 per cent for those on 30,000 euro (£27,000)
8 per cent for those earning up to 125,000 euro (£114,000).
8 per cent and up to 15 per cent for those on more the 200,000 euro (£182,00),
with the Taoiseach taking a 20 per cent cut
must say... those are impressive cutsHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment

The discussion ended badly when I said I pay his salary from my taxes alone. He flipped, we are still mates.

If she switches discipline (from Secondary to Primary) I think she would start out a few grades lower. Might be worth considering if she's desperate.Originally posted by d000hg View PostTell him to go for it, there are plenty of NQTs willing to take his job. Every teaching job Mrs. d000hg gets an interview for, they have to pay her ~£27k on the fixed scale. Normally, they hire an NQT at ~19K. She'd happily work at that salary but she's not allowed to."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? Striking teachers.
I think you might find the NUT balloting for strike action on a pay freeze - they are nutters.
The other unions tend to be a bit more pragmatic and less left leaning.
Mrs MM has already said she won't strike over a pay cut even in the unlikely event her union votes for it (NASUWT). But then, she is almost management now."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

Striking when you know cuts are going to be made seems pretty dumb. But then those in charge of the unions aren't the ones who will lose their jobs when they encourage strikes... if anything it gives them more work to do.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
