Well ATW, if it's going to be as big as you say then drop me a pm as you'll need some serious security on that site.

    Older and ...well, just older!!

You might as well say Cray does it - you should try to load 50 bln rows into it and then provide sub-second searches with scoring calculated on the fly.

Aside from the tech problems of spidering and indexing web pages (no mean feat in itself to get right), what EXACTLY do you understand "proximity matching" to mean, and how would you achieve this?

As for "dynamic user-editable scoring" - how many users of an SE could be arsed to 'score' the results of any given search.

        Dream on boy.

Do you honestly think Google (et al) has some big, ******* DB table with all the URIs of pages from the internet in it?

          Rows! Rows? Rows

Google don't use 'ROWS', 'TABLES' or any sort of RDBMS concepts for their indexing. They have their own custom-designed ISAM/HISAM file archictectures with inverted indexes, and other clever stuff.

Google uses very lean and mean ANSI C and some assembler, right down to the metal.

What? Did you think they used PHP + MySQL or something?

Duh! You don't really have a clue, do you AtW?

Oh God, you must be from accedemia then Scotspine.

"reed-muller" and "binary hamming" - i.e. cyclic error correction!

            Yeah? So ******* what?

What's so ******* tough about that?

Just because you work in a somewhat specialist field doesn't mean you somehow, magically, know more about programming, algs, or anything else for that matter.

You're just another blowhard my friend (amongst a lot of strong competition on this forum full of self-important *******).

Anyway - what happened to my old pal Tex O'Voider? (only reason I posted on this piss-pot forum in the first place).

Don't be daft, Bogey, they use a real man's tool - Access.

AtW , the soap opera that is the story behind your SKA is more likely to make money than the software itself

you must have added clairvoyance to your skillset bogeyman in order to make such acute observations about persons whom you have never met. you really have brought nothing to the table beyond a rather mean diatribe against someone who is working hard to create something. if that is the measure of your contribution, then there is something there that repels and if tex is the only reason you posted here, please be assured that the resumption of your absence would in all probability go largely unnoticed. however if indeed you wish to help with a reed muller issue, let me know. i am in any case curious why you find a simple request on the matter so provocative...? has the matter caused you some angst in the past?
