Gordo got it spot on, but really he should be in the Tory party where we know such truths are self-evident.
Hmmm, not sure about that. This particular woman, perhaps due to her generation, seems to genuinely believe in ‘work’, controlling debt and looking after those less fortunate. She asked why those who are genuinely unable to work were not being treated well while those who are able were being given benefits.

Somebody should tell Gillian Duffy that whatever you might say about her limited geographical knowledge, she seems to me to be to be a bit of a tory.

      Really ?

Mr Brown congratulates her on her choice of red jacket. He tells Mrs Duffy to take care, before they part.

Ugh, everything - she's just a sort of bigoted woman, said she used to be Labour. It's just ridiculous.

Explain with sufficent reference to the text how this exchange shows the genuine qualities of the prime minister.

I once worked with a guy who really didn't like being called a pleb. But that's plebs, hey!

I'm just still stunned by the idea that the future of the country could depend on one small (non-swearing) offhand comment happening to be caught by a microphone.

At least Brown apologised in person. Could you ever imagine Thatcher apologising for anything?

BTW, how is the job thing going? I know it's nice being 'the help' for someone else, but when are you going to stop playing at being working or middle class and apply yourself to higher things?
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I would be completely overwhelmed and over the top if someone called me a bigot and then spent 45 minutes apologising for that.

In fact I would sit with a grin on my smug face if someone called me a pr1ck, c0ck or anything else you prefer and then spent 45 minutes apologising for it.

The hypocrisy and treating ordinary folk with disdain doesn't bother you then?

It might be a small offhand comment to you but to others it is the evidence that New Labour has abandoned its northern working class roots in favour of liberal-minded middle-class urban professionals.
