Interviewer: but that's not fair.


Eh? Surely it's the very definition of fair. In fact, the poorer folk pay tax on a much smaller proportion of their income.

Not supporting their policies, but what a dumb interview.

I am very much in favour of flat tax rate. From the perspective of IT contractor I think it is very attractive from the point of view of simplicity.Evryone gets takes the same amount, lets say 20 % and nobody is entitled to any expenses. Makes perfect sense - just think of all the money you will save on accountants because you can do all these numbers yourself. Maybe all the accountants would go out of business though.

This is why a simplification of the tax system will not happen. Neither will a simplification of the legal system happen.

These structures are there to keep upper-middle class professionals in work.

Absolutely not. The rich are more able to pay, so it would be terribly unfair to make them pay the same as the poor.

"Fair" is when people pay according to their ability. And receive according to their needs.

Quite . So a contractor paying 30% of £100,000 would pay £27,000 and a "poor person earning £20k would only pay £6000 Of course under the UKIP system the poor person will ony pay 30% of £9000 (and the rich person 30% of £90k).

The better question however is this:

Would the tax be spent on buying nice cars and hloidays thus creating proper jobs for people. Or would it be better spent by the government on subsidising inefficient monoplies, buying votes and squandering it on welfare.
