I used to work with this guy who collected them.

Bizarre hobby, but I can see the upsides to it now.

OK, so he does that. Does that in any way, shape or form help this guy not be unemployed? No.

Does it have the potential to backfire when he's applying for a role somewhere and the guy interviewing used to work at the same company and had heard about how this particular contractor reacts to a benching. Yes.

Seems to me a very narrow shortsighted 'win' with the potential for a huge loss.

Also Im forever reading on here about how we are so much better than permies because we work harder and are more professional. Then we have garbage like sticking escort calling cards in his jacket pocket? Uh huh ........

I should have just let him get on with it really shouldn't I
Sounds like someone has got wind of what he has done, in getting rid of a good guy, so now he's coming over all nicey nicey, seen this myself, many a time, try and show him up with the rest of the pack, what a twat he is!

Been there, rebel without a clue, can't keep my mouth shut, it has cost me renewals = money. I never get into these kind of battles now, for one, I just don't care enough to let it cost me money.
On one gig I hated one chap I was working for, smug + arrogant, with no talent to back it up, all insecure front trying to impress people. He was oblivious and invited me to his wedding, regrettably I had to say I was busy, hang on, I haven't told you when it is yet !

                To the OP.

Things change when you have been in the same contract for a longtime. Permies change around you and therefore have different views.

Some contractors as well as permies who have been in the same place for sometime get into a comfort zone, so react badly to change.

A classic is to go, "I can't believe we're doing this again, or we've did it wrong last time blah blah". When that happens, you either roll over and let your tummy get tickled, or just go on and do the same thing again, or you go bollocks and leave.

In your case, lack of flexibility, a few Dear Editor emails(no doubt) and a general unwillingness to embrace the new dick in charge of you means you land up out of a contract. (If you were perm, that wouldnt have happened).

Sounds like a good time to move IMHO.

WHS but saying that looking at some of the posts people put on here I would even question the Smarter option. Some people just seem to play the numbers and barely get away with it.
