I disagree.

Best case for Labour is to come second in number of seats won. In that situation they will need to look for Lib for support and Nick has already hammered a deal with Lab to get shot of Brown and replace with Harman. This will work well for nick since he can manipulate Harman to his heart's content.

Worst case for Lab is to come third in number of seats won in which case there wont be a Lib-Lab. Brown will resign in this case.

Surely that would only be if Labour has the most seats? If Conservatives have the most seats then they could try and run a minority goverment?

You know the government of Canada has been minority for some years now. I think they've had one election and parliment has been prorogued three times! (or something like that). So it could work. Mind you, the opposition parties are so heavily in debt and are in such utter chaos that they don't want an election - they're afraid the government will get a majority!

Not at first.

Gordon Brown is still the head of the government today and remains so until he resigns. He could end up with fewer seats in Parliament than the Conservatives but will still get first chance of forming a minority government.

It is interesting to see how other countries respond but then in Canada you have the unique circumstances of trying to accommodate the English-Speaking and the French-Speaking parts with different parties specific to those areas.

Anywhere where there is proportional representation will have a track record of governments formed by agreement.

In Britain though there has almost always been a majority government so cross party agreement is uncharted waters.

However bad Labour is, the Tories will set the UK on a spiral towards the IMF, and cause a double dip recession. They will also be extremely bad for contractors, as they will look to enforce IR35 more rigidly, whilst getting rid of many contractors currently in public sector gigs.
