I think it's funny how people always say, "Nothing ever actually happens. Look at the Millennium Bug, and Mad Cow Disease, and Bird Flu," and they keep listing stuff that "didn't actually happen"... because there were big warnings about it, and people did something about it. The Millennium Bug should be held up as a shining example of how disaster can be smoothly and efficiently averted by forethought, planning and hard work, not pointed at as a case of unnecessary hysteria.
To introduce Godwin's Law at an early stage, there was a load of panic in the media about Hitler at the time, and nothing ever happened! Where's Hitler now, eh? Load of fuss that was.
